As an industry leader in sustainability, the CTICC subscribes to the following international voluntary codes of practice:
- International standards
The CTICC was the first convention centre in Africa to have its work processes certified by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), in line with international standards:
- ISO 9001 Quality Management
- ISO 14001 Environmental Management
- OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)

- United Nations Global Compact (UNGC)
The CTICC is one of the few convention centres in the world that is a member of the UNGC, a strategic policy initiative for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption. As part of its membership, the centre is focused on event greening and advocacy, as well as spearheading research, and upholding policy and standards. The CTICC boasts a UNGC Advanced Level status. - Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)
The CTICC was the first convention centre in the world to produce an externally assured integrated annual report aligned with the Global Reporting Initiative’s GRI 3.1 Framework. The CTICC has won the following awards for its sustainability commitments:
- 2013: The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) Award for the best sustainability reporting.
- 2013: Imvelo Responsible Tourism Award
